I did not use the photo carrier that came with the unit - it recommends putting the picture in the see-through plastic, but I just put the pictures through directly without any issue. I did encounter a few white streaks that others have mentioned in their reviews, but they only occurred on an occasional basis and it's easy to rescan if there's an issue - and you really have to look closely to see one. I am very pleased with the overall results and quality. I was able to scan several hundred pics in the time it would have taken to do about 25 on a flatbed. This is a great scanner for what it was designed for - quick digitization of snapshots.
